Mongolian

A bridge over Ider river, Jargalant sum

Etymology

Commonly treated as a form of хөөрөг (xöörög) and ᠬᠥᠭᠡᠷᠭᠡ (kögerge) from Proto-Mongolic *köxerge, from Proto-Turkic *köprüg. However initial voicing, үү instead of өө and missing -ge are all irregular and indicate perhaps a different origin.

Compare Buryat гүүр (güür), Daur xuurugw, Turkish köprü.
