Дөгө

Etymology[edit]

From Old Turkic [Term?] tögi (millet), from Proto-Turkic *tögi (millet).

In Bashkir, the initial d- and the retension of -g- point to a old loan from an Oghuz or Karluk source; the expected Kypchak reflex should be tüy- (as attested in Karachay-Balkar, Nogai tüy (millet)). Also consider the related Bashkir verb stem töy- (thresh, pound) (from Old Turkic tög- (id.)).
