From Proto-Turkic *yeŕne (son-in-law, sister's husband). Cognate with Chuvash йысна (jysna), Azerbaijani yeznə, Kazakh жезде (jezde), Nogai езде (yezde), Southern Altai јесте (ǰeste), Tatar җизни (cizni), cizni, Uzbek yezna, Khakas чисте (çiste), Shor честе, Tuvan честе (çeste), Western Yugur yezde, etc.
