Inherited from Old East Slavic кленъ (klenŭ), from Proto-Slavic *klȅnъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *klenas, from Proto-Indo-European *kl-eno-.[1][2][3][4] Cognate with Russian клён (kljon).
