Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *koməś, perhaps inherited from Proto-Uralic *kuśɜ (“twenty”). Compare Udmurt кызь (kyź), Hungarian húsz, Northern Khanty хөс (høs).
Alternatively, from Proto-Uralic *kojeśɜ (“twenty”), derived from Proto-Uralic *koje (“male”).
