Inherited from Old East Slavic сего дьне (sego dĭne), from Proto-Slavic *se dьne / *sego dьne, from *sego, genitive of *sь (“this”) + *dьnь (“day”).

Cognate with Russian сего́дня (sevódnja) and Ukrainian сього́дні (sʹohódni).
