Bashkir
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Cognate with Tatar чәүкә (çäwkä, “jackdaw”), Karachay-Balkar чаука (çauka, “jackdaw”), Crimean Tatar çavke (“jackdaw”).
Apparently related to Hungarian csóka (“jackdaw”), Chechen човка (čovka, “jackdaw”).
Note the reconstructed Proto-Slavic *čavъka (“jackdaw”). However, Russian does not have (and does not exhibit any traces of) this term, so the above terms could not be borrowed from Russian. More research is needed.
