From Proto-Turkic *tabul (storm, strong wind).

Cognate with Tatar давыл (dawıl), Kazakh дауыл (dauyl), Kyrgyz добул (dobul, hail, ice precipitation), Turkish dağıl (strong wind), Yakut тыал (tıal, wind), etc.
