Bashkir[edit]

Тәҙрә

Etymology[edit]

From *tereze "window", from Persian درزه (darza).

Cognate with Tatar тәрәзә (täräzä), Kazakh терезе (tereze), Kyrgyz терезе (tereze), Karachay-Balkar терезе, Chuvash чӳрече (čüreče), Kumyk терезе, Uzbek deraza (window).

In Bashkir, the -z- became interdental between vowels (following the regular Bashkir development), and metathesis took place: tereze*tereðetäðerätäðrä. The pleophonic form тәҙерә (täðerä) is also attested in dialects.
