Etymology

From Turkish elements; the филан- (filan-) is said to come from a Turkish word филян (filjan, some, some one), and kişi (person). The final element is -ия (-ija).

Appears to be the definite declension of the singular noun *фила́нкишия (*filánkišija), but this singular is never used.
