Etymology[edit]

Per Skok, from Vulgar Latin *excurtus (short) with metaphorical meaning. Cognate with Romanian curtus (short, brief), possibly Albanian shkurt (in short). Snoj alternatively reconstructs Proto-Slavic *skъrtъ (shrunk, cut short), from *skъrnǫti (to trim, to shrink).
