Etymology

A composite of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *kuĺ (bird) and (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *kūrt (worm). See resp. ҡош (qoş) and ҡорт (qort) for further etymology.

Cognate with Kyrgyz кушкурт (kuşkurt, the animal world, wild animals).
