Usage notes
- The form ұйғұр (ūiğūr) is more common in average use, however the official use is either уйғур (uiğur) or ұйғыр (ūiğyr). There is no difference of which to use, as with мұнда (mūnda) and мында (mynda); it only reflects a slight difference in pronunciation. However note, this situation is messy with уйғур (uiğur) being identical to Uyghur self-designation and used perhaps especially in the southeast while ұйғыр (ūiğyr) is a Kazakh designed form in the north. The latter is the standard but officials also use уйғур (uiğur) so it is not perfect clarity.
- Sometimes the plural ұйғұрдар (ūiğūrdar) is used with the form ұйғұр (ūiğūr), however it is technically incorrect.
