From Common Kypchak sañïraw ("deaf", see the Kypchak cognates below).

Cognate with Tatar саңгырау (sañgıraw), Kazakh саңырау (sañyrau), Kumyk сангырав (sañıraw), Karachay-Balkar сангырау (sañırau, deaf); also Uyghur ساغرىغۇ (saghrighu, deaf), probably Turkish sağır (deaf).
