Etymology

From Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *qora, compare Koryak ӄояӈа (qoyaŋa), Alutor ӄураӈа, Itelmen ӄос.

Derived by Fortescue from Proto-Samoyedic *korå (male, reindeer bull) from Proto-Uralic *kojera, and further connected with Even ора̇н (orȧn, reindeer) (from Proto-Tungusic *oran) and Southern Yukaghir [script needed] (qoroj, two-year old male reindeer).
