The word was transliterated into Armenian following Western Armenian pronunciation of the letter ճ ‎(č), which is [d͡ʒ]. The same happened in Ճապոնիա ‎(Čaponia), Ճավա ‎(Čava), Ճենովա ‎(Čenova), ճիզվիտ ‎(čizvit).
