Borrowed from Iranian. See Persian مهران (mehrân) for more. According to Ačaṙyan, the first Armenian bearing the name is a certain general of Tigranes the Great. Other old attestations recorded by Ačaṙyan are from 9th, 11th, 14th and 15th centuries.
