An Iranian borrowing. Compare Avestan [script needed] ‎(apaharəzana, dismissal), composed of [script needed] ‎(apa-, away) and [script needed] ‎(harəz-, to dismiss, to let) = Persian هلیدن ‎(hilīdan, to dismiss). Cognate with Sanskrit अपसर्जन ‎(apasarjana, abandonment).
