From աստեղ- (asteł-, star) +‎ -ա- (-a-) +‎ բան (ban, speech, word), on the model of Ancient Greek ἀστρο-λόγος (astro-lógos). The word is not attested classically, but աստեղաբանութիւն (astełabanutʻiwn) and աստեղաբանակ (astełabanak) are.
