Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Martirosyan derives drom Proto-Indo-European *turH-d-s- and compares to Lithuanian tvìrtas ‎(strong, firm, solid), Proto-Slavic *tvьrdъ (Russian твёрдый ‎(tvjórdyj)).

թրծեմ ‎(tʿrcem)  (aorist indicative թրծեցի)

  1. (transitive) to burn bricks or pots of clay in order to harden them
    թրծեալ‎ ― tʿrceal ― burnt, baked
