Old Armenian

Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *lasdā-. Cognates include Lithuanian lazdà (stick, rod, staff) and Latvian lazda (hazel bush). The original meaning of the Armenian word was “wood, log”, from which gradually the sense of “raft”, “to build” (in լաստեմ (lastem)), etc. developed.
