Etymology

Perhaps from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *kʰ₂ul-ieh₂- and cognate with Ancient Greek κήλη (kḗlē, tumour; rupture, hernia), Old Norse haull (rupture, hernia), Russian кила (kila). Alternatively, related to Russian шуло́ (šuló, testicle).
