Etymology
The origin is uncertain. Perhaps etymologically meaning “opposite side”, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sewkoy-ḱi(y)o-, a compound of *sewk-e/oy- (see հիւսեմ (hiwsem) for this etymon) and *ḱey- (“to be situated”), whence Ancient Greek κεῖμαι (keîmai). Compare հարաւ (haraw).
