From earlier *մանաւշակ ‎(*manawšak), from Middle Persian *manafšak, a by-form of wnpšk' ‎(wanafšag); see there for more. See also Middle Armenian մանիշակ ‎(manišak) and մանօշայ ‎(manōšay).

For the Iranian af → Old Armenian ու ‎(u) sound change compare սուսեր ‎(suser).
