Etymology[edit]

From Middle Persian [script needed] (mgwptʾn' mgwpt' /⁠mowbedān mowbed⁠/, literally mobad of mobads), from [Book Pahlavi needed] (mgwpt' /⁠mowbed⁠/). See Persian موبد (mowbed, mubed) for more. Doublet of մոգպետ (mogpet) and մուբիտան մուբիտ (mubitan mubit).
