From earlier մրջիմն (mrǰimn), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *morw-. Cognate with Ancient Greek μύρμηξ (múrmēx), Latin formica, Sanskrit वम्र (vamra), Persian مور (môr), Russian муравей (muravej).
