Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from a word related to Classical Syriac ܒܒܓܐ (/⁠bbgʾ⁠/), ܦܵܦܵܐ (ppʾ /⁠pāp̄ā⁠/), Arabic بَبَّغَاء (babbaḡāʔ), بَبْغَاء (babḡāʔ), بَبَغَاء (babaḡāʔ), Persian ببغا (babğâ), بپغا (bapğâ, parrot). The immediate source of the Armenian is uncertain.

      Kʿanzi keṙnexkʿ, ew agṙawkʿ ew papkaykʿ, ew or miangam homanmankʿ, zi tʿēpēt ew zanazanagoyn barbaṙescʿin, yōdawor óčʿ erbēkʿ ew óčʿ iwikʿ jayn karascʿen hanel.

        Although blackbirds, crows, parrots, and all the like can produce different kinds of utterances, they cannot produce an articulated voice in any manner whatever.
