Etymology

From Middle Iranian *pēs. Compare Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬉𐬯𐬀 (paēsa, ornament, embellishment), Sanskrit पेश (péśa, ornament, decoration) and Gurani پاسە (pāsa), پیْسە (pɛsa, such; thus, like this). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *peyḱ-; compare պիսակ (pisak).
