וַיְהִי • (vayhí) (Biblical Hebrew pausal form וַיֶּהִי (vayéhi))
- Third-person masculine singular vav-consecutive imperfect (hence past tense) of הָיָה (hayá).
- Tanach, Genesis 1:3, with translation of the King James Version:
- וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי אוֹר וַיְהִי אוֹר
- vayómer elohím y'hí ór vayhí ór
- And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
- Tanach, Psalms 33:9, with translation of the English Standard Version:
- כִּי הוּא אָמַר וַיֶּהִי
- kí hú amár vayéhi
- For he spoke, and it came to be

Not to be confused with וִיהִי, which is וְ־ + יְהִי.
