Ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic حَلَاوَة (ḥalāwa).

- The Hebrew root ח־ל־ב forms words connected to חָלָב (khaláv, “milk”). Since halva is usually made without milk, the Academy of the Hebrew Language recommends the spelling חַלְוָה. [1]
