Of Slavic origin (compare Russian хризанте́ма (xrizantɛ́ma), Ukrainian хризанте́ма (xryzantéma)), ultimately from Koine Greek χρυσάνθεμον (khrusánthemon), from Ancient Greek χρυσός (khrusós, gold) + ἄνθεμον (ánthemon, flower).
