Etymology[edit]

From לָקַח (lakákh, to take) + חֵלֶק (khélek, a part, a piece); hence literally "to take part". Presumably influenced by analogous expressions in other languages.

לָקַח חֵלֶק (lakákh khélek) third-singular masculine past (pa'al construction)
