- Maror, bitter herbs: a bitter vegetable, such as horseradish or romaine lettuce, eaten at the Passover seder as a reminder of the bitterness of slavery in Egypt.
- Exodus 12:8 (with King James translation):
- וְאָכְלוּ אֶת־הַבָּשָׂר בַּלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה צְלִי־אֵשׁ וּמַצּוֹת עַל־מְרֹרִים יֹאכְלֻהוּ׃
- v'akh'lú ét-habasár baláyla hazé ts'lí-ésh umatsót ál-m'rorím yokh'lúhu.
