Etymology[edit]
Unknown. Possibly פֿילע (file, “fillet”) + ־ער (-er), with insertion of palatal consonant to differentiate from פֿילער (filer, “filler”), however this is refuted by the difference in syllable stress. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
