From Akkadian pīḫātu (province), probably an ellipsis of bêl pīḫāti (literally “lord of the province”). The second meaning is a phono-semantic matching of Turkish paşa.

     בתחלת אפריל 1944 פרסמו עתוני מצרים את הידיעה על מותו של תוופיק רפעת פחה, נשיא "האקדימיה לשפה הערבית ע"ש פואד הראשון". בעקבות ידיעה זו החלו חוגים שונים להזכיר שמות של אישים מצריים כמועמדים למשרה זו. ושמו של אחמד לוטפי אס־סייד פחה נשנה פעמים רבות.

     Bi-tḥilát Apríl 1944 pirsmú 'itoné Mitsráyim et ha-ydi'á 'al motó shel Táwfik Ríf'at Peḥá n'si "ha-Akademiyá l-Safá ha-'Aravít 'al-shem Fuád ha-Rishón".      At the beginning of April 1944, the Egyptian newspapers publicized the news of the death of Tawfiq Rif'at Pasha, the president of the Fuad I Academy of the Arabic Language. Following this news, various circles began to mention the names of Egyptian personalities as candidates for this position. And the name of Aḥmad Luṭfī es-Sayed Pasha was repeated many times.
