  1. to dive (to swim under water, to descend sharply or steeply)
    • Tanach, Exodus 15:10, with translation of the New International Version:
      נָשַׁפְתָּ בְרוּחֲךָ כִּסָּמֹו יָם צָֽלֲלוּ כַּֽעֹופֶרֶת בְּמַיִם אַדִּירִֽים׃
      [But] you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
