Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Biblical Hebrew וּכְאוֹר (“and as the light”), cf. 2 Samuel 23:4. The [aɪ̯] sound may have been influenced by מעשׂה (mayse). Compare the etymology of ברוגז (broygez).[1]
