Etymology

Derived from the noun קול with the addition of the suffix -נ- (-n-) to indicate excessiveness, and the suffix י- (-í) to indicate adjective. Compare גזעני (=racist, lit. "excessively racial"), לאומני (=nationalistic, lit. "excessively national").
