From Turkish Edirne and Ottoman Turkish ادرنه (Edirne), from Byzantine Greek Ἁδριανούπολις (Hadrianoúpolis), from Ancient Greek Ἁδριανός (Hadrianós, Hadrian) + πόλις (pólis, city, city-state).
