Diminutive of ثَرِىّ (ṯariyy, “many, numerous, abundant”) from the root ث ر و (ṯ-r-w) meaning "to be great in number or quantity", "to be numerous", "to be abundant", "to possess much"; literally "the little one possessing many" or "the dear abundant one".
