Etymology

From جَلْجَلَ (jaljala, to rattle) for the fruits of Savignya parviflora, foreboding high summer, dance and shake when ripe and dry – if the verb is not from the plant. The name for this plant also bears the forms قُلْقُلَان (qulqulān), قُلَيْقِلَان (qulayqilān).
