Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kētmen (hoe, mattock); cognate with Azerbaijani kətmən, Bashkir кәтмән (kətmən), Chuvash катмак (katmak), Kazakh кетпен (ketpen), Kyrgyz кетмен (ketmen), Turkmen kätmen, Uyghur كەتمەن (ketmen) and Uzbek ketmon.
