Etymology[edit]
كلب (kelep, “yarn”) + ـچه (-çe, diminutive suffix), by confusion with بیلكچه (bilekçe, “handcuff”). Also Azerbaijani kələfçə / کلپچه and hence Central Kurdish کەلەپچە (kelepçe), Persian کلپچه (kelepče).
