Etymology

A more general meaning is found in Sabaean 𐩫𐩠𐩡 (khl, “to be successful”), 𐩫𐩠𐩡𐩩 (khlt, “success”), whereas perhaps generalized from this meaning the (widely developed, also in other Ethiopian Semitic languages) root of Ge'ez ክህለ (kəhlä, “to be able”) and Hebrew כְּהַל (kəḥal, “to able”) and Aramaic. The similarity to Persian کهنه (kohna, “old”) is thus a coincidence.
