  1. take vengeance on, to be spiteful against
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 7:126:
      تَنْقِمُ مِنَّا إِلَّا أَنْ آمَنَّا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاءَتْنَا
      tanqimu minnā ʔillā ʔan ʔāmannā biʔāyāti rabbinā lammā jāʔatnā
      You take vengeance on us only because we believed in the verses of our Lord when they reached us!
