From the root ق و م (q-w-m). Cognate with Hebrew הֵקִים (hekím).

أَقَامَ (ʔaqāma) IV (non-past يُقِيمُ (yuqīmu), verbal noun إِقَامَة (ʔiqāma) or إِقَام (ʔiqām) or مُقَام (muqām))

  1. to raise, to lift
    أقامَ يَسُوع أشخاصًا خَسِروا حَياتَهُم،‏ ذُكورًا وإناثًا وكِبارًا وصِغارًا.
    Jesus raised people who had lost their lives, male and female, old and young.
  2. to set up, to erect
  3. to establish, to found
    وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُوا مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ.
    waʔaqīmū ṣ-ṣalāta waʔātū z-zakāta wārkaʕū maʕa r-rākiʕīna.
    And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow.
