Etymology[edit]
Contraction of ܒܲܪ ܐ݇ܢܵܫܵܐ (bar nāšā, literally “son of man”), from ܒܲܪ (bar, “son of”) + ܐ݇ܢܵܫܵܐ (nāšā, “the human, the person, the man”); compare similar in Hebrew בֶּן אָדָם (ben adám, literally “son of Adam”).
