Onomatopoeic and reduplicated. Alternatively from ܡܟܲܠܸܠ (mkallil, “to crown”) because this is done also when the couple is crowned during the marriage ceremony, and some dialects also use that verb for ululating. It is possible that that form was the original.
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]ܡܟܲܠܟܸܠ • (mkalkil) (present participle ܡܟܲܠܟܘܿܠܹܐ (mkalkōlē), past participle ܡܟܘܼܠܟܠܵܐ (mkulklā))
- to ululate (to emit a series of high-pitched noises, done by Middle Eastern women at times of celebration)
