Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic שְׁבַעֵסְרֶא (šəḇaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܫܒ݂ܲܥ (šḇaʿ, seven) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, ten); compare Arabic سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ (sabʕa ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁבַע עֶשְׂרֵה (sh'vá 'esré).
