From Aramaicתְּמָנֵעְסַר(təmāneʿəsar). Equivalent to ⁧ܬܡܵܢܝܵܐ(tmānyā, eight) +‎ ⁧ܥܸܣܪܵܐ(ʿisrā, ten); compare Arabicثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ(ṯamāniyata ʕašara) and Hebrewשְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר(sh'moná 'asár).
